Plastic Sunshine: 3rd Hole Activation

Welcome to The Third Hole — a fully stocked, grab and go, cheeky pop up store, conveniently located directly on hole 3 at Langdon Farms golf course.

“Now Open, Today Only!” The Third Hole was created for the ThinkNW Open, a yearly golf event brining together the best of the northwest in marketing, media, and design.

A key part of the ThinkNW Open is sponsoring various holes across the course. This year, Langdon Farms hosted, and our agency, Plastic Sunshine, sponsored hole #3. We had free reign to create whatever we dreamed up for our sponsorship. While some brands went simple with an A-frame and a logo, we saw it as the perfect chance to show off our creativity and have a lot of fun doing it.

Our goal was to develop something unexpected and over the top.

That's how we landed on the idea of building an entire convenience store right on the hole. We wanted a fun, memorable shopping experience with a playful, slightly unbelievable twist. Leaning into the low brow golfer, we brought the humor and laid back personality to The Third Hole. Inspired by takeout packaging and old-school pizza shops, we built an entire brand identity, paired with a tongue-in-cheek tone that didn’t take itself seriously.

To set the mood, we had to make sure golfers were excited and ready to shop.

We set up plenty of signs leading to hole 3, pushing our fun vibe and quirky culture. We wanted players to roll up with a smile, get a laugh, and then be blown away seeing the buildout of the shop.

The space came together perfectly. We obsessed over the details, both in the customer experience and the spatial design.

Walking up, guests were handed a tiny red shopping basket. This was no ordinary pit stop though, “Grab and Smash” was the name of the game, and with every grab, golfers became part of the spectacle. Snacks? Check. Golf tees? Plenty. A t-shirt you didn’t know you needed? Why not? Heck some people even grabbed a case of soda!

Once their baskets were filled and they were ready to smash their next drive, guests were given a receipt, filled with more golf puns and a link to our agency’s site. Every detail was deliberate, from the faux $3 bill you spent, to the price tags, to the color matching snacks, even the height indicator was added to elevate the experience.

And let’s talk about that $3 bill. Real enough to make you double-take, playful enough to make you smile. Designed to be a keepsake, or, you know, something to drop at the next hole to confuse your buddies.

The Third Hole, a perfect example of what happens when you let creativity run wild and trust the process. A little irreverent, totally unforgettable, and completely Plastic Sunshine.

Everything about The Third Hole screamed, "We’re not like the others." It was a love letter to fun, a break from the ordinary. It showcased Plastic Sunshine’s approach—creative, bold, and always a little unexpected. And at the end of the day, this wasn’t just a brand activation. It was a statement: golf doesn’t have to take itself so seriously. And neither should we.
